Elbert County Sheriff's Posse

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Posse has been a part of the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office for most of 70 years and probably longer as records do not exist beyond that time.  The Posse’s mission is to assist our fellow citizens, law enforcement, and emergency services agencies through our time, resources, and organization.

Although a part of the Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Posse is a non-profit Internal Revenue Service 501 C (3) corporation.  Money the Posse raises goes to buy emergency services equipment for local agencies such as the sheriff’s office, police departments, fire departments, etc.  Posse members volunteer their time to assist local law enforcement and community groups in providing security services for events, disaster recovery, search and rescue, and more.

Members of the Sheriff’s Posse are volunteers and receive no personal pay for their time.

The Sheriff’s Posse is a registered member of the Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) program.  See: http://www.policevolunteers.org/

Citizens in good standing are encouraged to join the Sheriff’s Posse by downloading a Sheriff’s Office Employment Application, filling it out and returning it to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.  The application may be found at the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office web site or at:  http://www.elbertcountysheriff.com/forms/employment.pdf
