The Posse has been active in Elbert County for over 60
years, formerly known as the Elbert County Sheriff's Posse.
In 2002, we separated from the sheriff's office and now
operate as our own independent non-profit corporate entity.
The County Posse, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-for profit
corporation as designated by the Internal Revenue Service.
The Posse's mission is to provide volunteer services to our
community through local law enforcement agencies, fire
agencies, and other local government and non-government
agencies in our area. We are all volunteers. There is no
pay associated with membership to the Posse or any
organization that the Posse supports. We are not a law
enforcement (peace officer) entity, we are volunteers that
help law enforcement and other agencies and the community
as requested. The Posse and its members are free to support
any agency it chooses and refuse to support any agencies it
chooses. The Posse and its members are only under the
control of those agencies while serving specific functions
for a specific time frame. The Posse and its members exist
without the authority, and permission of any agency it
chooses to support.
